Not all “Fuel polishing” Cleaning Systems are the same.
Many systems remove much of the diesel bug itself from your fuel, but leave the water and other contamination behind in the bottom of your Fuel tank which is known as fuel polishing.
Clean fuel marine does not Fuel Polish we clean your tank and fuel, our equipment removes water to 100 ppm from water saturated diesel fuel as well as “diesel bug”(Bacteria) contamination as low as 1 micron, also rust and any other unwanted contamination from the bottom of your tank.

Understanding “Diesel Bug” (Bacteria) contamination
Diesel bug spores are all around us. They are very common in the normal atmosphere. There is not just one sort of “bug” in fact, bacteria, fungi and even algae may all play a part.
Like the vast majority of living things they rely on water to survive and therefore to reproduce – clean, and new diesel should have a very low water content and is unattractive to these spores. Unfortunately when purchasing fuel, tests taken often show readings way in excess of 400 Parts Per Million of water in the fuel. Water at this level in your fuel will sink to the bottom of your tank creating the ideal environment for diesel bug to proliferate.
The spores enter fuel tanks via purchased fuel, breather vents and every time the filler cap is removed.
Each spore has the capacity to reproduce 260,000 times every 6 hours!
What are the consequences?
Once diesel bug dies it leaves a build up of a sticky / waxy substance behind resulting in tank and fuel contamination.
Fuel contamination symptoms are:
- Reduced power and efficiency.
- Smoky and smelly exhaust.
- Blocked Filters.
- Diesel heating failure.
- Unnecessary wear and tear on fuel pumps and injectors.
In Line fuel filters filter to 30>35 microns and don’t remove all the water, diesel bug and other contaminates.
Just changing the fuel filters. Is Not The Answer.
Worse then follows- Contamination that passed through the In-line filter will block your fuel pump and injectors and eventually stopping your engine.
